Part heritage, part contemporary, a little bit of sensuality and a lot of craftsmanship
French native, Le Sand has over 25 years of experience in the design, branding and décor industry, having consulted for many top-tier clients in France.
In 2000, he received the 1st prize at MAISON&OBJET in Paris. Relocated to Singapore in 2008 and established AKAR de NISSIM in 2012, thereby fulfilling a dream of designing his own collections and manufacturing the products in-house to ensure a consistently high quality.
It is within manufacturing ateliers that Le Sand learned the publishing craft. There, he learned the gesture, the materials, the know-how and the very demanding commitment making high-quality furniture requires.
Since the creation of the house Akar De Nissim, it is hand in hand with a network of craftsmen (cabinetmakers, ceramists, brass casting experts, upholsterers, stone suppliers…) that each piece has been drawn, designed and produced, writing the pages of a catalog that has already become one of the essential hallmarks in the furniture know-how landscape in Asia.
Each piece bearing the Le Sand stamp first stands as the affirmation of the prolongation between the designer’s hand and the one of the craftsman: a French excellency which favors discretion over ostentatious effects, but has none the less become a true signature.
Throughout his career, Le Sand has never derogated to its own requirements and fundamentals…After more than 500 pieces of furnitures and twice more home accessories under his pencil, the stroke is now freer : first of all, purer, it has gained in expressiveness, daring more eclecticism, drawing its inspiration from an architectural element, a work of art, a material or an assembly technique. Without ever losing of sight the idea that a piece of furniture first stands as an element to dress up any interior, an expression of comfort, and the witness to an era.
Le Sand has been acting as consultant design director for HANOIA for nearly 4 years, a vietnamese luxury brand, partnering closely with HERMÈS for over a decade for their impressive know-how in lacquerware.
In 2018, he joined the team of Jean-Michel GATHY from DENNISTON (Malaysia) to assist the team to develop an in-house furniture collection.
Then in 2022, he joined the architecture practice SCDA Architects, based in Singapore, Shanghai and New York where he has been working closely with Soo Khian Chan, his founder and principal to instill into the ID projects some occidental spirit. Passionate with arts, he also implemented the in-house art consulting department to create distinctive art collections reflective of the architectural design.
